Who assesses my learners?

Is this just a chatbot?

No. A general chatbot is open-ended and will happily answer for the learner. A Sofiya dialogue is the opposite: a structured, bounded conversation you configure for a specific assignment. The partner is steered by your opening question, learning objectives, and assigned materials; it probes the learner's reasoning and asks follow-up questions. It does not lecture, give answers, or wander off-topic, and it has a defined beginning and end, set by your turn limits.

Can learners just cheat with AI?

This is one of the problems Sofiya is designed around. Because the assignment is a live reasoning dialogue rather than a producible artifact like an essay, there is no document to outsource to a chatbot. A conversation that probes and follows up in real time is much harder to fake than a submitted paper, and the transcript gives you an authentic view of how the learner actually reasons.

Does the AI give learners the answers?

No. The partner is designed to steer learners toward the learning objectives without handing over answers. It asks the next good question, surfaces tensions in the learner's reasoning, and grounds the discussion in the materials you assigned.

How is the conversation kept on-topic and accurate?

The partner is retrieval-grounded in the assignment's actual source materials, so it stays anchored to what you assigned rather than answering from the open internet. Your opening question and learning objectives keep the dialogue purposeful.

How long are the conversations?

You decide. Each assignment sets a minimum and maximum number of turns, so every learner gets a comparable, bounded experience: enough depth to demonstrate their thinking, without an anxious, open-ended chat. Learners can always see where they stand.

What about data privacy and compliance?

Sofiya is built for the Canadian educational context from the ground up. All learner data is stored and processed exclusively in Canada, with Canadian data residency and audit logging. The platform is designed for compliance with BC FIPPA, BC PIPA, Alberta PIPA, and PIPEDA. Architecturally, Sofiya is multi-tenant: each organization's data is isolated from every other tenant.

Is Sofiya only conversations?

No. Sofiya assesses in three modalities: the dialogic conversation it started with, multiple choice exams where every wrong option can name the misconception it reveals, and concept maps marked against an expert map you approve. You can set the same learning objective in more than one, and Sofiya will show you where they disagree rather than averaging them into a single number.

Does the AI decide the mark?

No. Multiple choice is marked against your answer key, and concept maps are marked deterministically against the expert map you approved, with partial credit where a learner joined the right pair of ideas with the wrong relationship. For conversations you choose the rubric levels yourself: Sofiya never pre-fills them, and learners never see them. You can return a batch of work you have already assessed in one action, but there is deliberately no bulk assess.
