Cookie Policy
Last updated October 14, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Sofiya.ai ("Sofiya", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on sofiya.ai and related services (the "Service"). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage and session storage, serve comparable purposes. We refer to all of these as "cookies" in this policy.
2. How we use cookies
Sofiya uses a limited set of cookies that are necessary to run the Service securely.
Strictly necessary cookies
These keep you signed in, protect your account, and make the Service work. They cannot be switched off in our systems, and the Service will not function properly without them.
| Purpose | Name | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Authentication and session (keeps you signed in) | session | Up to the length of your active sign-in session (currently 30 minutes, refreshed while you keep using the Service) |
| CSRF protection (verifies requests actually come from you) | csrf_token | Same as the session cookie above |
We do not currently set any other strictly necessary cookies beyond these two.
Preference cookies
These remember choices you make, such as your language.
| Purpose | Name | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Language / locale | NEXT_LOCALE | Up to 1 year |
Most other interface preferences (for example, reading settings or layout choices) are stored using your browser's local storage rather than cookies, stay only on your device, and are never transmitted to us.
Analytics and performance cookies
We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies.
Advertising cookies
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell personal information.
3. Third-party cookies
When you use features connected to other platforms, such as launching Sofiya from your Institution's learning management system (LMS) via LTI, that platform may set its own cookies. We do not control them; please see that platform's policies. Our embedded or integrated use within an LMS may also depend on your browser's third-party cookie settings.
4. Managing cookies
- Browser settings. Most browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies. Instructions are available in your browser's help pages. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in or using parts of the Service.
- Consent choices. When you first visit the Service, a cookie preferences banner lets you choose which non-essential cookie categories to allow. You can change your choice at any time by clearing the related cookies in your browser, which will show the banner again.
- Do Not Track. The Service does not currently respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals, because we do not engage in cross-site tracking.
5. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as our use of cookies changes. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date and, where required, ask for your consent again.
